Victim Witness Assistance Program

If you are a victim of a crime, we are here to help you. Virginia law gives victims and witnesses certain rights and we can help you understand your rights and know where to go for assistance.

Our Department can:

  • Explain what to expect in court
  • Keep you updated about your court case
  • Go with you to court hearings
  • Tell you about protection available to you
  • Refer you for help with:
    •  Medical bills and other out-of-pocket losses
    •  Counseling
    •  Support groups
    •  Food and shelter
    •  Medical/dental care

The New Kent Victim Witness Assistance Program is located in the New Kent Commonwealth's Attorney's Office in the New Kent County Courthouse.

For additional information, please visit the General Victim Witness Assistance Information page. This page contains useful information for crime victims, including important phone numbers, list of your rights as a victim, what type of assistance you are entitled to by law, and information about protective orders.

In addition, the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Resources page has phone numbers for assault hotlines and shelters in the New Kent surrounding area.
