The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is responsible for building, operating and maintaining public roads and bridges in New Kent County, to include the interstate and major primary roads. VDOT does not maintain private roads, sidewalks, or pedestrian/bike paths. VDOT provides a variety of roadway maintenance services to include culvert cleaning, curb and gutter repairs, dead animal removal, ditch cleaning, dust control, grading, gravel/stone replacement, guard rail replacement, mowing, pothole filling, snow removal, debris removal from roadway and tree trimming/removal from the right-of-way.
The VDOT Ashland residency services New Kent County (also includes Charles City, Goochland, Hanover and Henrico Counties). A representative from the Ashland Residency attends the Board of Supervisors monthly business meeting to report on work completed throughout the County.
