The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee was created by the Board of Supervisors in January 2006 to assist in the development of an affordable housing policy for New Kent. It was chartered on January 28, 2009.
Makeup: One member appointed by each Supervisor (but does not have to live in district or in New Kent County), plus one at-large member, as well as representatives from the ministerial association, Quin Rivers Agency, New Kent Social Services, and County staff. Meets "as needed". All terms end December 30, 2011.
Duties/Powers: The Charter adopted on January 28, 2009 and amended on June 8, 2009, established duties to include:
- defining "affordable housing" by December 30, 2009
- assessing need and analyzing existing and anticipated supply and demand by June 30, 2010;
- reviewing ordinances and policies for revisions by December 30, 2010; and
- providing a financial plan to implement by June 30, 2011.
Meeting Schedule: 1st Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the historic courthouse.
