Social Services Advisory Board


The Social Services Advisory Board acts in an advisory capacity to the Director of Social Services with respect to the duties and functions imposed by the Code of Virginia. Powers and duties include to interest itself in all matters pertaining to public assistance and social services for the people of New Kent; to monitor the formulation and implementation of social services programs; to meet with the Director at least 4 times per year for the purpose of making recommendations on policy matters concerning the department; to make an annual report to the Board of Supervisors, concurrent with the budget presentation of the department, concerning the administration of social services programs in the County; and to submit other reports from time to time to the Board of Supervisors as appropriate. Created by Ordinance O-24-05. Governed by Va. Code Section 63.2-305 and New Kent Code Section 54-31 et seq.

Makeup: Composed of one Board-appointed member from each election district and a membef of the Board of Supervisors.

Term: 4-year staggered terms ending June 30.

Meeting Schedule: meets on the 3rd Wednesday of January, May, July, September and November, at 8:30 a.m. at the Department of Social Services offices located at 12025 Courthouse Circle (Health & Human Services Building), New Kent, Virginia.
