On November 21, 2019 at 10:51 p.m., units from New Kent Fire-Rescue responded to a residential townhouse fire in the 10000 block of Carolina Cherry Circle in the Oakmont Villas subdivision in Providence Forge. Occupants were home at the time of the fire and exited the home prior to units arriving, however, pets were still inside of the structure. First arriving fire crews were faced with heavy fire from the garage of a two-story townhome end unit extending to the second floor. The fire was brought under control at 11:15 p.m. after causing significant smoke and fire damage throughout the townhouse and there was no extension to any of the other townhouses. Crews were able to rescue two dogs and one cat from the residence. The animals are being treated for smoke inhalation and are expected to recover. The cause of the fire was investigated by the New Kent County Fire Marshal’s office and is determined to be an accidental fire caused by paper products in close proximity to a space heater.
