Volunteer Service Opportunities
New Kent Fire-Rescue is always looking for individuals who what to join the ranks of volunteers that help protect the citizens and property throughout our communities! In rural localities such as New Kent volunteers are an important aspect of Fire and EMS services... so, if you're interested in being an Everyday Hero then please take the first step by downloading and completing our Volunteer Application

The 2015 New Volunteer Member Orientations will be held on the following (3rd Wednesday) dates: February 18; April 15; June 17; August 19; and October 21. Attendance at only one of the orientations is required. The start time and location for each date is 7:00 PM in the facility training room at Fire Station 1 (Providence Forge) located at 4315 North Courthouse Road, Providence Forge, VA 23140.

Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT)

A Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) supports local response capability by training volunteers to organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers at the disaster site, to provide immediate assistance to victims, and to collect disaster intelligence to support responders’ efforts when they arrive.

Currently New Kent County has one (1) CERT that was established by the residents of the Brickshire Community.


The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES).

An all volunteer Amateur Radio organization operating in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to provide back-up communications for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the various counties therein. New Kent 4 Amateur Radio (NK4AR) is the supporting Amateur Radio club for this effort in New Kent County.
