Animal Control
Unit Organization
The New Kent Sheriff's Office Animal Control Unit is a specialized branch of the Sheriff's Office. The unit provides required services and public education relating to domesticated animals. The Animal Control Unit operates from the pound located at the County Refuse Center on Olivet Church Road (State Route 618).

Personnel assigned to this unit are sworn law enforcement officers. All of our officers receive continual training specific to animal protection to insure a high quality of service to our citizens.

Services & Responsibilities
The Animal Control Unit provides assistance in a wide variety of issues in dealing with domesticated animals. The majority of our time is spent handling stray animals or animals that are creating a nuisance. We do not handle wild animals unless the situation involves exposure with a potentially rabid animal.

Visit the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services page on Eastern Equine Encephalitis for additional information about this disease.
