County Administrator Rodney Hathaway presented the proposed Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Budget to the Board of Supervisors at the Board's March 13, 2023 business meeting. The Board is expected to consider the budget for next fiscal year at its April 25, 2023 work session. The FY24 Proposed County Budget totals $107,868,017, including the Schools budget of $47,375,167. The FY23 adopted County budget totaled $90,544,175.
The 2023 real estate tax rate is set at $0.67 per $100 of assessed value. The 2024 rate is proposed at $0.69 per $100 - a two-cent increase.
The proposed FY24 Capital Improvement Projects Budget, for various proposed Capital projects from various departments, totals $16,645,570. Listed projects include Fire Station 6, Pine Fork Park lighting, upgrade of County's 911 radio system, a refuse & recycling stie in the west end and various vehicle and equipment replacements across departments.
The proposed FY24 budget numbers above do not include the Public Utility Budget which totals $12,397,748, excluding transfers of $965,820. There is no proposed change in Water and Sewer Rates as well as Connection & Availability Fees. However, the elimination of the Bottoms Bridge Service District Tax – $0.05 reduction from $0.05 to $0.00 -- is included.
