Everard welcomed to New Kent as new County Attorney

The New Kent County Board of Supervisors is pleased to announce the appointment of Joshua Everard as the County Attorney for New Kent County. Mr. Everard was unanimously appointed by the Board on May 30, 2023, with an official start date of June 16, 2023. As County Attorney, Mr. Everard provides general counsel to the Board of Supervisors, the County Administrator, and the departments and constitutional officers that provide public services to the citizens of New Kent County. Mr. Everard is an established local government attorney with experience litigating complex civil disputes at the appellate and trial levels in both federal and state courts, negotiating and drafting multimillion dollar contracts, advising public bodies, and providing general counsel to local government elected officials and executives on a wide variety of legal issues.

Prior to joining New Kent County, Joshua was the Assistant County Attorney for James City County, where he represented the James City Service Authority, the Stormwater and Resource Protection Division, the Department of Social Services, the Building Safety & Permits Division, the Chesapeake Bay Board, and the Wetlands Board. Previously, Joshua served as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Hampton, where he represented the Building Official, the Code Official, the Town and Gown Committee, the Local Board of Building Code Appeals, and the Citizens Unity Commission. Mr. Everard began his career at a law firm specializing in local government law, where he represented two cities, two counties, four towns, and numerous other political subdivisions located in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. Joshua earned his law degree from the Washington & Lee University School of Law and studied philosophy and economics at Old Dominion University.

Joshua enjoys hiking and backpacking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, riding his bicycle on the Virginia Capital Trail, and spending time with his family and friends.
